SGS Confirms Confidence of Metallurgy for Storie Moly Property

September 25, 2008

West Vancouver, British Columbia – Columbia Yukon Explorations Inc. (the “Company” or “Columbia Yukon”) is extremely pleased to announce a further significant advancement of the Company’s “Storie” property molybdenum deposit located near Cassiar in northern British Columbia.

SGS Mineral Services (SGS Canada Inc.) of Vancouver, BC (“SGS”) was engaged by Columbia Yukon to investigate options for the recovery of molybdenum (via floatation) from the Company’s Storie property. The scope of the program conducted by SGS involved sample preparation, grindability testing, mineralogical characterization through QEMSCAN analysis, rougher kinetics testing, and batch cleaner testing on a master composite and also batch cleaner testing and locked cycle testing on four variability composites. The SGS metallurgy program also included an environmental testing program.

SGS has recently completed its preliminary metallurgical testing of ore taken from the Storie property molybdenum project and the Company is extremely encouraged by the results of the program. Based on the favourable testing and findings of SGS, the Company has been able to ascertain the following:

  • SGS concluded that the ore is non-refractory in nature and that salable molybdenum concentrate can be produced using a simple traditional process with proven methods
  • Minor amounts of pyrite and a notable lack of clay-like mineralization are present (therefore reducing processing problems)
  • Gangue (tailings) minerals  are not problematic
  • The final concentrate graded at 53% Mo with a 69% molybdenum recovery
  • Preliminary “locked cycle testing” resulted in Mo recoveries of 70% to 87%

As recommended by SGS, a second phase of testing is now underway using a larger sample size. It is believed that a larger sample test should significantly improve the locked cycle test recoveries. The SGS technical metallurgical report prepared for Columbia Yukon’s Storie property molybdenum deposit can be reviewed on the Company’s website at www.columbiayukon.com.
